General knowledge of Language Testing


1.   The differences between:
Norm-referenced test
Criterion-referenced test
        This test is designed by several teachers in a group
        The test is designed by a teacher
        To measure the student achievement and give material
        To measure the student language ability
        The scoring system is numerical relative score, has a standard score
        Has certain score
        The test is unpredictable
        The test is predictable
        The test need try out before teat
        This test doesn't need try out before test

2.   Objective and subjective assessment are ongoing process of a learning that for optimal the learning, each student needs freedom experience with trials and errors. So, objective and subjective assessment will be accurate and useful if are used in the test.

3.   The types of the test
        Proficiency test     à it is to construct of language ability are specified. This test tests through ability the student.
        Placement test      à it purposes to place the student particular level or language curriculum that the material covered by various courses
        Diagnostic test      à it offers information simple designs that to diagnose specified aspect of a language in a course level
        Aptitude test         à it offers the learning and provides the student with information about them strength and weakness
        Achievement test  à it is indicatory the student needs after course with the objective in question
        Experiment test    à it is to know the students knowledge during the teaching with sample and trial

4.   To evaluate the students’ achievements or ability is better way. Because the teacher can know the students’ abilities, skills, and knowledge during and after learning in the class from evaluate.

5.   To apply formative and summative assessment in teaching and learning process. Formative assessment can be used and through the learning process (do exercises or practices). Opposite of formative, Summative assessment only uses in the end of the course or learning process (midterm test, quiz, review, final exam)
